About
United Chronicle is an independent editorial publication about the buildings and built places people encounter in ordinary life. We look at how architecture, materials and construction details work, and what they reveal about use and design.
What we cover
Our subject is the built world: building forms, facades, doors, windows, common materials, construction details and the relationship between buildings and streets. We favour subjects a reader can observe and understand without specialist equipment or professional advice.
Who it is for
The publication is for curious readers who want more than a style label or a pretty photograph. You do not need an architecture background. We explain terms when they matter and distinguish what can be seen from what would require plans, measurements or expert inspection.
How we look
We compare the job a design feature does with the impression it gives. A broad window may offer a view, but it also changes how a wall reads; a facade material has a texture and a maintenance story, not just a colour. We avoid treating one style as the answer to every problem.
A building is an argument in materials
Its doors, windows and surfaces make choices visible. We explain what those choices do without pretending every design works equally well.
